April 20, 2016

BERKELEY – Congratulations to Cal for earning the first-place award in the Pac-12 Road To Zero Waste Challenge for the second year in a row. The Cal Zero Waste Team partnered with elementary and middle school volunteers from the Ready Set Recycle schools’ program to educate fans about recycling. The men’s basketball contest against USC attracted a sellout crowd of 11,858 attendees. Cal had a total diversion rate of 85.3 percent including: 485 pounds of compost, 81 pounds of bottles and cans, and more than 55 pounds of cardboard and mixed paper recycling. StopWaste and the Ready Set Recycle campaign served as the corporate partner for the event.
