Locker Leftover Guide

The last days of school present a major waste reduction challenge and opportunity for schools. Many schools order extra dumpster service to handle the high volume of old tests, worksheets, gym clothes, binders, notes, pencils and other school related supplies generated at the end of the year. Schools frequently add custodial hours to handle the mess. The added staff time and garbage service can be wasteful - especially when considering that a bit of pre-planning can divert reusable and recyclable materials from the landfill while providing a more organized end-of-year clean-out procedure for schools.

The East Bay Depot for Creative Reuse, in partnership with StopWaste and the Alameda County Office of Education's SLWRP, has produced a guide to end-of-school-year waste reduction, "Locker Leftovers."
