More than 17,000 tons of recycled compost and mulch have been used on Rated Landscapes in Alameda County. 
Benefits of using compost and mulch in the landscape include:
- Controlling weeds without chemical herbicides
- Helping retain moisture in the soil, thereby reducing the need for irrigation water
- Improving soil health and helping plants thrive
- Keeping grass clippings, leaves, tree prunings and other greenwaste out of landfills and putting them to good use
