Bay-Friendly Landscaping is a part of an integrated campaign that features outreach and education not only to landscape professionals but also to residents of Alameda County.
For the experienced landscape professional, we offer the two Bay-Friendly Landscape Training and Qualification Programs: one for Designing New Landscapes and another for Maintaining Existing landscapes. The trainings are based upon the principles and practices of Bay-Friendly landscaping. Participants will have the opportunity to become an expert in Bay-Friendly Landscaping as an ecologically based approach to the management of urban landscapes. In addition, upon the successful completion of the class and a final exam, participants will be able to market their newfound, cutting-edge expertise and services as a Bay-Friendly Qualified landscape professional.
The Bay-Friendly Landscaping program hosts trainings for landscape design and construction professionals in the public and private sectors at least once a year. These trainings feature in-the-ground case studies of Bay-Friendly landscapes and guest experts presenting cutting edge practices in their field. Visit the “What’s New?” box on our home page to see if any workshops are scheduled soon.
The Bay-Friendly program helps to educate public agency staff in Alameda County in cutting-edge ecological landscaping techniques. We periodically offer scholarships to local workshops related to Bay-Friendly principles and practices. If there is a workshop that you feel would contribute to your ability to implement Bay-Friendly Landscaping at your agency, we are always open to suggestions. Please contact Teresa Eade (teade@stopwaste.org) for more information. Visit the “What’s New?” box on our home page to see if any workshops are scheduled soon.
Special landscape design trainings can also be arranged for the municipal public works staff of our member agencies that focus specifically on implementing Bay-Friendly model policy. If you are interested in scheduling a training, please contact Teresa Eade at teade@stopwaste.org.
Our public education programs deepen the understanding of healthy soil, proper plant selection and other important ecological practices in the landscape which help increase the demands for these services from landscape professionals.
The Bay-Friendly Garden Tour is an opportunity for both the public and professionals to view Bay-Friendly practices and principles in real garden settings. The Garden Tour is also an opportunity for the landscape professional to market their environmental services by featuring their client's garden in the tour.
