Construction & Demolition Debris
Construction and Demolition (C&D) materials still occupy a large percentage of our landfill space. Building activities have been cited as one reason why landfill volumes have been increasing, despite expanding recycling efforts by local jurisdictions. In Alameda County alone, more than 355,000 tons of construction and demolition materials are unnecessarily disposed of at landfills annually. We have developed the following resources to assist in the diversion of C&D materials:

• Construction and Demolition (C&D) Debris Recycling Model Ordinance
  In November 1999, the Alameda County Waste Management Authority Board endorsed a Model Construction & Demolition Ordinance requiring contractors to divert at least 50% of their construction waste materials from landfill.  In October 2010, the model ordinance was revised to align with CALGreen requirements and the increase in C&D recycling capacity due to new infrastructure and technology.
