Agency Building Officially Certified LEED Platinum
In December StopWaste.Org received some long-awaited news: 1537 Webster St. is now officially a Platinum LEED building! The hard work and dedication of the project team along with the support of our Boards and staff also garnered the extra recognition that 1537 Webster is the first LEED Platinum rating in the country for a renovated building. StopWaste.Org is proud to demonstrate our commitment to Green Building practices through our beautiful new office. Special thanks to all of those who helped make it happen.

Bay-Friendly Landscaping Qualifies 2008 Class of Landscape Maintenance Professionals
Graduates from the Bay-Friendly Landscape Maintenance Training & Qualification Program have received instruction on how to recognize, protect and make the most of the services that nature provides, in order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, use plant debris as a valuable resource, conserve water and energy, and prevent pollution. More than 110 Bay-Friendly Qualified professionals now offer their expertise in nurturing landscapes that are as healthy and environmentally-friendly as they are beautiful!

Sustainable Workshops Promote Reusable Transport Packaging
The StopWaste Partnership is encouraging Alameda County companies and public agencies to switch from single or limited use packaging and pallets to reusable packaging, pallets and handheld totes. StopWaste hosted its third workshop on this topic in January; over 50 people attended, representing eighteen public agencies and fifteen businesses.

Featured StopWaste.Org Grantee: Habitat for Humanity East Bay
Habitat for Humanity East Bay, a non-profit celebrating it's 20th year, represents the rare organization that has successfully combined concern for social justice with environmental awareness. In two decades of dedicated work, Habitat for Humanity EB has completed 400 homes for low income families in Alameda and Contra Costa and funded the construction of over 400 additional homes around the world and encouraged reuse as a viable alternative for new building projects.
