Food Scraps & Plant Debris Composting
Food scraps, food soiled paper and plant debris are the largest unrecycled portion of the residential waste stream in Alameda County. By participating in your curbside collection program, food scraps, food soiled paper and yard trimmings are sent to a composting facility where they become a valuable resource used by landscapers, home gardeners and farmers.
All cities in Alameda County offer food scrap and plant debris composting programs with the weekly collection of the green bin at the curb. Apartments and condominiums also offer food scrap composting programs. See the links at right to learn more.
