Eco-Friendly Craftsman Kitchen: Oakland, CA
Green remodeling makes sense for every style of home, including the East Bay’s beloved Craftsman bungalows. When Bruce Mast and Juliet Cox decided to renovate the kitchen in their 1923 Craftsman home, they made sure that new windows, cabinets, flooring and other finishes harmonized with the original style. What’s more, they selected products for their environmental attributes, including recycled content, low toxicity, durability and energy efficiency. The owners did the design and much of the labor themselves, with assistance from family members. Subcontractors were hired for demolition, sheetrock, electrical, plumbing, tiling and linoleum installation.
