The Household Hazardous Waste program is sponsoring a free one-day event in Albany on Sunday, October 3 for residents of Alameda County only. The event is full and registration is closed. Don’t forget there is free, year-round, drop-off for your materials at a Household Hazardous Waste Facility near you. Our facilities in Fremont, Oakland, Hayward, and Livermore are open weekly for drop-off of accepted materials. For more information, click here.

Rules for HHW Drop-off
For your safety and the safety of our staff, please observe the following rules while dropping off your household hazardous waste:
Stay in your vehicle.It is state law and part of our COVID-19 protection plan. Items must be in an unlocked trunk or back cargo space. Staff will not open passenger doors or enter vehicle cabin. |

Face masks are mandatory.The driver and all passengers must wear a mask during HHW drop-off. |

Have your driver's license ready.We will scan your license to verify Alameda County residency. |
What We Can Take at One-Day Events:
- Batteries
- Light bulbs
- Paints and paint related products
- Electronics & small appliances
- Propane tanks
- Old medications and prescriptions (including controlled substances)
- Oil, gasoline, auto fluids
- Cleaners
- Fire extinguishers
- Sharps containers
What We Can't Take at One-Day Events:
- Treated wood waste including railroad ties, click for more information
- Asbestos
- Compressed gas cylinders other than propane
- Large appliances (such as air conditioners, refrigerators, stoves, washers, etc.)
- Construction and demolition waste
- Smoke detectors
- Explosives (such as ammunition, fireworks, marine flares, gunpowder)
- Radioactives
