Sustainable Textiles: Moving Toward a Circular Economy in Fashion
Join a panel of different local organizations who will discuss the current problems with the textile industry and speak to how they are working towards solutions. Then, we will discuss with participants things they can do to extend the life of their clothing, source more sustainable clothing and furniture, and dispose of textiles more sustainably.
5:30-6:30 pm: Everything You Should Know About Home Energy in 30 Minutes (BayREN)
Learn about how government policy and the energy market are changing your energy bill, the best way to address energy costs in your home, and how to make your home healthier and more comfortable. Immediately after, you will have the opportunity to choose a breakout room to learn more about the programs and resources that best fit your situation.
The Future is Electric: How to Eliminate Fossil Fuels from your Home
Electric appliances like heat pump water heaters and induction cook tops are cleaner, safer, and higher-performing than their gas-powered counterparts. Now, these state-of-the-art appliances are becoming widely available for the first time and making it easier than ever to go carbon-free at home. Join this webinar to hear from local contractors and representatives from the Bay Area Regional Energy Network (BayREN) and East Bay Community Energy (EBCE) on how you can take advantage of significant rebates and incentives to upgrade your home.
Healthy Cooking for You and the Planet: A Conversation with Two Professional Chefs
Join this fun and interactive virtual event to hear from two professional chefs on how you can cook delicious meals that are good for both you and the planet. Chef Rachelle Boucher of Kitchens to Life and StopWaste Food Waste Prevention Partner, Chef Alison with Ends & Stems, will team up to cook a zero-waste and emissions-free meal using seasonal ingredients. Along the way, learn practical tips for meal shopping, prepping, and storage to reduce food waste and receive information on how you can improve indoor air quality and receive rebates by upgrading to a high-end induction cooktop.
Taking Action on Climate Change in Alameda County: Local Government Efforts and Perspectives
Alameda County is a leader on climate action. Given that we are now past the State’s first climate milestone of reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions to 1990 levels by 2020, Alameda County’s jurisdictions are looking ahead to goals for 2030 and beyond. Some of these new thresholds set ambitious goals such as carbon neutrality by 2045. Hear from local government sustainability professionals from the cities of Alameda, Albany, Fremont, and Pleasanton on what actions they have taken to address climate change, adaptation, and environmental justice so far and how they intend to continue reducing emissions.
