Reusable Bag Law

Since 2013, grocery stores and certain other food retailers in Alameda County have not been allowed to provide single-use plastic carryout bags at checkout, and the results have been great for our local environment.

Sankofa House, Berkeley, CA

Building Opportunities for Self-Sufficiency (BOSS) is an Alameda County–based nonprofit organization that helps homeless, poor and disabled people achieve health and self-sufficiency. Sankofa House is Phase II in BOSS’s creation of Ursula Sherman Village, a development in West Berkeley that provides a beautiful, safe setting where homeless families can build skills that are essential to escaping homelessness and living independently in the community.
 

Erna P. Harris Court, Berkeley

Erna P. Harris Court in the City of Berkeley was first conceived of as an affordable housing development for very-low income and formerly homeless persons in 1994. In 2011, RCD substantially renovated Erna P. Harris Court to reposition the property for thirty more years of service.
