The California Green Business Network has recognized StopWaste once again as a certified Green Business. We are proud to join hundreds of other businesses in Alameda County and over 4,000 across California that are committed to being environmentally friendly and minimizing their impact on the environment.

Our Agency's mission focuses on helping Alameda County residents, businesses, schools, and governments to become better stewards of the environment by preventing waste, saving energy, conserving resources, and taking action to increase community resilience to climate change.

Our programmatic goals align with our workplace culture as we continually seek to implement environmentally conscientious practices that prioritize the well-being of our staff while reducing our environmental impact. StopWaste was first certified in 2008 and remains dedicated to maintaining our status for the California Green Business program.

Below are some of the practices we implement to earn and maintain this recognition:

  • Introduced a Reusable Foodware kit for Agency events that includes reusable cloth napkins, reusable plates and utensils, and stainless-steel cups for staff to check out, wash, and return.
  • Curated a Sustainable Catering Procurement List featuring food businesses who practice reuse, recycling, and food waste prevention.
  • Established an in-office food share system by providing stickers to staff to place on food and condiments that can be shared with co-workers.
  • Installed energy efficient appliances and lighting/HVAC systems to reduce our energy use and greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Implemented Integrated Pest Management Plan and use non-toxic cleaners and building maintenance products to reduce toxics.
  • Set up a Reuse Corner in the communal area of the office for coworkers to bring in unwanted and no longer needed stuff for others to enjoy or gift.
  • Use paperless invoicing and contract system, saving hundreds of sheets of paper per month.
  • Purchase 100% recycled content paper products.
  • Divert waste by maximizing recycling and composting.
  • Installed low flow water fixtures.

The California Green Business Network is led by a coalition of state, local, utility, and non-governmental organizations. The program achieves its mission by recognizing and promoting businesses that meet high sustainability standards.
