As the Alameda County representative to BayREN—a regional collaboration of Bay Area public agencies—StopWaste connects local businesses to free assessments, rebates, and expert guidance to make energy upgrades easier and more affordable.
Did you know? There are nearly 70,000 commercial businesses in Alameda County, and about 80% have fewer than ten employees. BayREN's commercial programs are built to meet the needs of these small businesses by offering practical, accessible pathways to reduce energy use and operating costs.
BayREN Business
Small and medium businesses can receive help to identify cost-saving energy improvements through the BayREN Business program. Businesses receive a free on-site energy assessment, incentives, and hands-on technical assistance for upgrades such as lighting, refrigeration, HVAC, water heating, building envelope improvements, and controls-based technologies.
BayREN Refrigerant Replacement Program
Food and floral businesses can reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve system performance through the BayREN Refrigerant Replacement Program. The program helps businesses replace high-impact refrigerants with climate-friendlier alternatives and install energy-efficient equipment that can lower utility bills.

Also available are mini-grants of up to $500 for Alameda County restaurants, cafes, and retail food businesses to purchase reusable foodware for dine-in service.
