Compost Hubs host communal piles of free compost for residents. The host city continually restocks with locally produced compost. Please take a moment to review the following information:
- Please observe posted open hours, follow all signage instructions, and be respectful of the host organization.
- Bring your own fillable containers and load your own compost.
- Fill out the on-site participation survey every time you visit a hub — on repeat visits, the survey is shortened.
- Compost is first-come, first-serve, and compost piles may empty in-between deliveries, during high demand seasons such as Spring and Fall, or during wet weather. Reach out to the host city if you have questions about compost availability.
- Some compost hubs are restricted to residents of that city, see below. The compost hubs do not verify your city of residence.

Curious why Compost Hubs are opening across Alameda County?
California's SB 1383 mandates statewide organic waste diversion from landfills (for composting, etc.) and edible food recovery to mitigate climate change and food insecurity. Additionally, SB 1383 also requires cities and counties to annually "procure" a target amount of "Recycled Organic Waste Products" such as compost. Distributing compost at the Compost Hubs helps the host city meet their SB 1383 procurement target while providing resources to their residents.
