What's Accepted at Events
Events accept most of the same materials as permanent facilities, plus medications and controlled substances (which permanent facilities cannot accept).
- Batteries
- Paint and paint-related products
- Electronics
- Motor oil, gasoline, and auto fluids
- Pest and garden chemicals
- Household cleaners
- Propane tanks
- Fluorescent light bulbs
- Fire extinguishers
- Sharps containers (needles, syringes, lancets)
- Medications and prescriptions (including controlled substances)
Note: Motor oil and gas containers cannot be returned at events (unlike permanent facilities, where staff can save your emptied containers).
Not Accepted at Events
- Treated wood waste and railroad ties
- Large appliances (refrigerators, stoves, washers, dryers, A/C units)
- Construction and demolition waste
- Compressed gas cylinders (except propane)
- Smoke detectors
- Asbestos
- Explosives, ammunition, fireworks
- Radioactive materials
Tips for Attending
- Pack safely — use sturdy, sealed containers, keep chemicals separated, and transport them in your trunk or cargo area
- Bring ID — you'll need proof of Alameda County residency
- Stay in your vehicle — staff will unload your items
