All four Alameda County HHW facilities accept electronics at no cost.
Retailer Take-Back Programs
Many electronics retailers accept old devices:
- Best Buy — most electronics
- Staples — computers and accessories
- Apple — Apple products
- Cell phone carriers — old phones
Manufacturer Programs
Many manufacturers offer recycling for their products. Check the brand's website for details.
Before You Dispose
Erase Personal Data
- Back up important files
- Sign out of all accounts
- Factory reset the device
- Remove SIM cards and memory cards
Donate Working Devices
Working electronics can go to schools, nonprofits, Goodwill, or local repair cafes.
Check for Trade-In Value
Many retailers and manufacturers offer credit for newer devices.
Special Handling
TVs and Monitors
CRT (tube) monitors contain lead and require special handling. All HHW facilities accept them.
