All businesses in Alameda County can participate in this drop-in service that accepts latex paint, aerosol cans, fluorescent lamps, and household batteries. No account setup or appointment needed — just complete a Bill of Lading form and drop in during scheduled hours.

Accepted Materials
- Latex paint — up to 5-gallon containers, no quantity limit (oil-based paint is NOT accepted at drop-in)
- Aerosol cans — any type, up to 16.4 oz, full or empty
- Fluorescent lamps — unbroken only; must be packaged to prevent breakage
- Batteries — rechargeable and primary batteries, including SLA gel cells (up to 40Wh) and lithium packs (up to 300Wh). Tape over all terminals. Place damaged lithium batteries in separate clear plastic bags.
DOT limit: 999 pounds maximum for batteries and aerosol cans per trip.
Not Accepted
Other types of hazardous waste require an account and appointment through the Small Business Hazardous Waste Service.
Pricing
- Minimum charge: $25
- Payment: Cash or credit card (Visa/MasterCard only) at drop-off
- Cost details and estimates are included in the Bill of Lading form
Transportation Requirements
- Business owner or employee must transport waste — for-hire haulers cannot deliver waste for another company
- Use leak-proof, securely closed containers in good condition
- No hazardous residue on the exterior of containers
- Label all containers clearly
- Pack and brace waste to prevent movement or spills
- Keep waste in the vehicle's cargo area (not in the passenger area)
- Stay in vehicle — staff will unload waste
