Alameda County offers specialized hazardous waste disposal services for businesses operating in the county. Under federal and state regulations, businesses cannot use the residential HHW drop-off service — but two programs provide safe, compliant disposal options for commercial hazardous materials.

Who's Eligible?

These programs are available to Very Small Quantity Generators (VSQGs) — businesses that produce less than 220 pounds of hazardous waste per month. This includes contractors, non-profits, government agencies, home businesses, and commercial landlords.

Residential landlords with rental housing may qualify for a separate free program.

Business Disposal Programs

Small Business Service

Appointment-based disposal for VSQGs. Accepts a broad range of hazardous materials. Requires EPA ID, account setup, and appointment. $25 minimum.

Drop-in Service

No appointment or account needed. Drop off latex paint, aerosol cans, fluorescent lamps, and batteries at three facilities during scheduled hours. $25 minimum.

Related Services

For businesses generating more than the VSQG limits, contact a licensed hazardous waste hauler for proper disposal services.
