Follow these steps to set up compliant indoor bin stations:

1. Organize Bins into Stations
Place color-coded bins in sets of three wherever waste is generated: break rooms, kitchens, common areas, and near workstations. (Not required in restrooms.)
- Green = Compost (food scraps, food-soiled paper)
- Blue = Recycling (bottles, cans, paper, cardboard)
- Black/Gray = Garbage (everything else)
Tip: Free indoor green bins are available for businesses.

2. Label Bins with Stickers
Label each bin clearly so people know what goes where. Use two stickers per bin so they are visible from both sides.
Tip: Request free indoor bin stickers to be mailed to you.

3. Place Signs Above Each Bin
Mount wall signs above bin stations to help staff and customers sort correctly. The more closely your signs reflect materials actually generated at your site, the easier sorting becomes.
Tip: Download and print free signs.
Many cities also offer pre-made signs and posters.

4. Use the Correct Bags
Check which bag types comply with your city's regulations for compost and recycling bins.
